When Attending

A record* pull is a get together in which you play a recording of a well liked song and you explain what makes you like this song. It could be the melody, the lyrics, what was happening in your life the first time you heard it, the memories the song conjures up, the images you see when you hear the song, the artists or whatever attracted you to the song. The only criteria is that the song has to be meaningful or wonderful to you.  A discussion of the song then ensues.

No musical knowledge is needed to join a record pull - just an appreciation of music.  No particular genre of music is needed or disqualified.  We've listened to folk, rock, metal, jazz, blues, popular, indy,  and just about anything you can think of.  You also don't need to like every song that we listen to, and that's OK to say.  Upon joining the group you will be provided with some qualities or attributes of music that might make it easier to hold a discussion but no specific knowledge of music is required and you aren't limited to discussing those attributes.

Most meetings have a theme to the records brought although participants can bring any record. Sample themes are favourite Christmas Song, Influential high school or young adult song, songs mentioning river, Irish or Irish influenced songs, and sad songs.

A record pull introduces you to new songs and new genres of music, opens up  subtleties and aspects of music you may not have encountered and enables you to learn more about the people you hang out with.

* record is used in the broadest sense - Any type of rcording, including, USBs, streaming platforms, and dvds have been used.
